Black River Rocks Legends Roadhouse
Danceable classic rock covers from a Wichita Falls band
Lee Ewell and his band Black River have been playing the Wichita Falls scene fairly regularly in 2023 but circumstances never aligned for me to check out a show until a recent gig at Legends Roadhouse.

Black River is a four-piece cover band, characterized via their Facebook page as playing “the classic and southern rock you love to hear! AC/DC to ZZ Top and everything in between!” Taking that description into account, the show I saw was on the nose — straight-up danceable classic rock singalong songs.
I got to chat with Lee a little bit after Black River’s set and told him I was pleasantly surprised by Black River’s singer, Jack Teague. He handled ZZ Top and AC/DC with equal skill and that says something. AC/DC music is not easy stuff to sing.

The other members of Black River include John McGowan on bass and Dan Chilenski on drums, both of whom also play in Strange Lucy, and they were a solid rhythm section, as always.
