An Electrifying Debut from Three Piece Grease
The Hard Times rock the Pub without Clint Vines
Recently we wrote about the polished debut of Fake Happy, Wichita Falls’ Paramore tribute band, and the bludgeoning-by-metal at the live debut of Mind Funeral. Now, just weeks later, another new local group has made their presence known with an electrifying live debut — Three Piece Grease.
Three Piece Grease debuted their live show as a guest at Open Mic Night hosted by Clint Vines at the Iron Horse Pub and dazzled us with talent and taste. Jacob Seigler’s unstoppable bass had swing, John Cameron’s timekeeping was powerful and impeccable, and Kelly Jackson’s fiery lead guitar and vocals impressed us with both technical prowess and emotion.
Follow this: Clint Vines and The Hard Times is Clint Vines, Kelly Jackson, Jacob Seigler and John Cameron. Now subtract the night’s host, Clint Vines, and you have Three Piece Grease. They’re The Hard Times without Clint Vines.
Three Piece Grease brought a who’s who of respected local musicians to the pub for a performance that was hotly anticipated; an expectation much deserved. 3PG served up a variety of skillfully chosen tracks, like a bluesified cover of The Zombies’ “She’s Not There,” and an amazing version of Jimi Hendrix’ “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).” Led by Kelly Jackson’s guitar and vocals, we were living in the memory of Stevie Ray Vaughn, too.
Three Piece Grease sets the bar precipitously high on pure musical talent alone, with feel and passion woven into the fabric of their blues and soul. Their page describes 3PG as “Delicious, chicken-fried blues & funk from some of Wichita Falls' greasiest players.”
As we departed the show, someone said “We may have just seen the start of something incredible,” and we’re pretty sure that’s true.
