The Timeless Country of Zack Crow
Melodic hard country songwriting shines on debut single
Oklahoma seems to breed hard country musicians with amazing songwriting talent, and Zack Crow is the latest example we’ve seen come out of the Sooner state (in a field that also includes Ryan Oldham’s RDO Smokewagon.) We caught Zack Crow and his amazing band in December of 2023 at the Iron Horse Pub in Wichita Falls, and it was a revelation.
Zack Crow is a singer/songwriter who also happens to be a very good guitarist, left-handed, and prone to unleash smoldering leads on his six-string. Twang is kept to a minimum, in a manner similar to the aforementioned RDO Smokewagon and national artist Blackberry Smoke. Crow’s music bears a youthful attitude with thoughtful lyrics, and when you combine his talent with his capable band, the end result is incredible.
If you’ve followed TheFUSE for any length of time, you know about Crow’s bassist Mackey Divine, a talented musician who also plays bass for Blank Labels and others, and we have written about Mackey on a number of occasions. However, Zack’s drummer, Cody Choate, was not someone I had seen perform before and… wow.
Cody is the real deal.
Choate plays like a rock drummer, hits ‘em hard, and I suspect he goes through a lot of sticks and drumheads, because there doesn’t seem to be any holding back in his performances. If you like drummers as much as I do, I highly recommend you take in a Zack Crow show.

Zack Crow’s debut single, Think Like You, is out now and to my ears, it is absolutely timeless right out of the gate and harkens back to classic rock and southern rock bands from a previous generation — Crow’s melodic guitar fills and smoky vocals recall classic Bad Company to my ears. Give it a listen and tell us what you think in the comments.
