Single Alert: RDO Smokewagon "Too Far Gone"
Oklahoma's Ryan Oldham is back with a new single on all platforms
We previously covered RDO Smokewagon’s gig at the Iron Horse in support of Clint Vines & the Hard Times, and we were wowed by the songs and the musicians. Now, Oklahoma’s Ryan Oldham and his band just released a brand new single, “Too Far Gone,” available on all streaming platforms, and the track exemplifies everything we saw at that gig this summer — stellar, tight songwriting, masterful musicianship and an authentic tone.
The storytelling nature of classic outlaw country artists is always present in Oldham’s music, and his gritty delivery can be reminiscent of Merle Haggard, Tom Waits, and Willie Nelson. With Too Far Gone, you can’t escape the autobiographical nature of the lyrics from a music man like Ryan Oldham.
Tell my mother that I love her
Tell my brother I’ll see him soon
Pedal to the floor and I’m driving with the harvest moon
Ain’t no sign in me of slowing down
I’m way too far gone to turn around
You can call it red dirt, hard country, outlaw country or whatever label you want to paste on it, but Ryan Oldham’s music defies labels. Once you get a load of their live show, with lead guitarist Taylor Reed non-stop shredding in the context of a country band, you’ll understand what I mean.
