TheFUSE has been following the young southern rock band LanceBattalion since we saw them perform at Woody’s in Wichita Falls on August 10, 2023. That just so happens to be the same night as the microburst of 2023 which devastated our city. This photographer, and the guys in LanceBattalion, narrowly avoided a serious drenching at a very abbreviated gig that only lasted about 8 or 9 songs.
Since then, LanceBattalion has put down some recorded material that is damn impressive. Guitarist/Vocalist Michael Ajemian is a raspy exercise in southern rock, with hints of the Doobie Brothers and the Black Crowes, and the Muscle Shoals sound lives on with Brock Horton’s fat Les Paul leads, the solid bass of Walker Pierce, and the drumming of Dawson Washington.
Pretty Woman [Spotify | Apple] features epic Southern Rock songwriting in a four and a half minute package with excellent production values. It sounds pro. Take a listen.
Now consider, the guys in LanceBattalion are 20 and 21 years old. There’s a lot of room for growth for this band from Mansfield, Texas. Add Pretty Woman to your favorite Southern Rock playlist, so it spins right along side your other stuff and you’ll hear, it fits right in.
