Roadtrip: Sean Snyder and Clint Vines Live in Graham
An outdoor acoustic gig at a cool venue an hour south of Wichita Falls
Scrolling through social media last week I noticed a post from Clint Vines about an upcoming show at a new venue — Salt Creek Inn and Market in Graham, Texas — and I decided a sunset roadtrip to check it out was just what the doctor ordered.
I drove out to Graham, an hour south of Wichita Falls, and followed my navigation to 471 State Highway 67. I would recommend you do the same, because if you look up directions to Salt Creek, the great AI in the sky might direct you to Salt Creek Lodge which is an entirely different place, a couple miles away.
Together, Sean Snyder and Clint Vines traded songs in an acoustic set that was a lesson in complimentary contrasts — Clint with acoustic versions of country classics and originals (not to mention one song performed entirely in Spanish) and Sean with less-aggressive acoustic versions of his punk rock poetry.
Every time I hear Sean perform acoustically, I hear something new in his music — a hint of classic Americana, or a similarity to a legend like Don McLean. On this occasion, I could swear that there’s a little bit of subtle maritime atmosphere present in Sean Snyder’s music… an occasional resemblance to a sea shanty or a musical folk story like Billy Joel’s “The Downeaster Alexa.” I never get tired of hearing Sean play.
Clint Vines put on his standard acoustic set and it was great, as always. I’m told Clint has a few gears turning behind the scenes right now, and we’re all gonna find out what’s happening soon.
I always love checking out a show at a new venue and Salt Creek Inn and Market is a pretty cool place. There were food trucks and adult beverages and lots of fall activities for the family. The well-lit tree in the center of the courtyard is a great place to take a selfie with that person who matters to you, too. I’ll be checking out some shows at Salt Creek Inn and Market in the future.
