Live: The Damn Quails and Blank Labels
Our first Quails experience was better than we expected
Norman, Oklahoma’s The Damn Quails came to Wichita Falls recently and we made it a special priority to check out this show for two reasons. First, we missed The Damn Quails the last time they were in town and we’d heard it was excellent, and second, the presence of local musician Ian Clark at stage right, on the keyboards.
Ian has been off playing with the Quails for quite some time and we didn’t want to miss the chance at getting some photos of our hometown boy done good while he was here.
We had never seen the Quails before and we had no idea what we were in for… we’d seen tour posts from venues in the region that described the Damn Quails as folk rock and electric folk, but the performance we saw was more than that. Think back to early-2000s Dave Matthews, Sister Hazel, Guster, and Counting Crows, and then you’re getting the vibe.
It wasn’t good. It was real good.

In support for The Damn Quails, Wichita Falls’ own Blank Labels may have stolen the show.
The Blank Labels boys have been active in 2024, playing out in support of their recent releases Vague and You4ia, and their time in the studio and on the stage showed in their performance. Blank Labels was loose and comfortable
