Live Standup Comedy: Liquid Laughs
Saturday, June 3rd, 8pm at The Venue on 8th Street
In my experience, there’s little better than a night of standup comedy for date night, so this is your heads up to message the object of your personal infatuation and invite them to Liquid Laughs at The Venue on 8th Street. Who knows what might happen…
Comedians Mitch Burrow and Dylan Sullivan each have impressive resumes with appearances on Comedy Central and FOX, and live shows at places like The Laugh Factory, The Improv, and Joe Rogan’s Comedy Mothership in Austin, on the same bill with nationally known comedians Doug Benson and SNL star Punkie Johnson, among many others. Make no mistake, Mitch and Dylan are the real deal, and damn funny. As a former longtime radio guy who has seen tons of comedy shows in person, I consider it a rare opportunity to see comedians as funny as Mitch and Dylan in an intimate, up-close-and-personal setting.
I caught up with Mitch for a few questions this afternoon.
Mitch, how well-known are you in Wichita Falls? Do you get recognized?
Despite doing a few TV shows while in Los Angeles and local radio here… I have yet to be recognized by anyone out in public. That’s the best though. I didn’t move to Wichita Falls to be swarmed by adoring fans. My family has a nice home, and we’re surrounded by the friendliest neighbors… except Steve. There is always a “Steve”. The only downside is there’s no landlord to take care of the list of things my wife needs fixed around the house. That falls on me now, and it is a long and expensive list.
You've done shows in some amazing places, including television appearances, the Laugh Factory, the Improv, clubs in LA and Seattle, but I understand the pandemic cost you some opportunities. Can you tell me a little about that?
I lost a commercial for Chevron with Techron. It was celebrating their 25 year anniversary. I had already recorded it and it was scheduled to be released a month after the pandemic started. They canceled it because they didn’t think it would look good to be celebrating anything during that time.
I was also on America’s Got Talent. I received four yes votes from all four judges, and then at the last minute, they cut my audition. They didn’t even air it. However, if you watch the episode where the judges are deliberating who to pass on to the next round you will see my picture on their board. Technically I can still say “as seen on AGT”!
After that I decided I didn’t want to mess with the Hollywood industry anymore. I moved away , and I decided to do it on my own, surrounded by real people. I just wish someone would have told me about the summer temperatures here.
Tell me about Dylan Sullivan as if I haven't already looked up his videos.
Dylan Sullivan is the other comedian performing on June 3rd. We both started performing at The Comedy Store in LA at the same time. He’s been on Lights Out with David Spade and Comedy Central Featuring. He’s fat, and he’s gay. He is self deprecating, and he makes fun of himself in every way possible. I’ve never seen him not crush. He is hilarious.
What should we expect at the show on June 3rd?
On June 3rd, Wichita Falls is going to get its first experience of what a true comedy club feels like. Theater shows that bring the big names aren’t intimate, and the smaller shows I’ve seen locally don’t bring the best talent. I am doing everything that I can to replicate the professionalism, style, and ambience of a true comedy club. I think anyone that shows up will definitely be excited for more of what is to come.
