Landmark: The Wichita Falls Route Building
Formerly known as the Kemp-Kell Depot
Part of the Wichita Falls Depot Square Historic District, the Wichita Falls Route Building was built in 1909. It is one of 40 buildings that make up the Depot Square Historic District in downtown Wichita Falls.
When it was a depot, this building was used by the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway, Wichita Valley Railway, and the Wichita Falls and Southern Railroad, all of which were owned by Joe Kemp and Frank Kell, but by 1920, they vacated the building.

Depot Square would not be complete without a few choo choos.
It looks like the building is home to a law firm these days — Schenk, Schenk, & Haines.
It’s a nice short walk down to Depot Square from just about any place downtown, and have your camera ready because it’s hard to resist the texture of the red brick street. It’s a great place to take photos, and a quick cruise through Wichita Falls social media shows it. A lot of people have had their photos taken here.
