HermAnthony & the Side FX Live at Stone Oven Pizza
Wichita Falls quartet continues to grow
When we first saw HermAnthony, the group was really a duo, Anthony Taylor and Herman Hardin, and they’d occasionally have bassist Kenny Reynolds sitting in. A few gigs later, they had Aaron Jensen on drums. Then we started seeing Herman’s electric guitar come out a little more often, and an already entertaining show with great songwriting became more lively. They then added “& the Side FX” to their name to recognize their permanent members.
We caught HermAnthony & the Side FX on the turf at a low-key, semi-acoustic gig at Wichita Falls’ Stone Oven Pizza, and found things as expected. This group continues to mature.
Anthony and Herman each contribute a lot to the songwriting and vocal duties, and even if you’re not familiar with their originals, a HermAnthony gig brings plenty of surprises, with covers of Pink Floyd songs and an unconventional, subdued take on classic Guns ‘N Roses for example.
Heavy rain throughout the day largely kept the crowd away on this particular occasion but it should be noted, there’s something romantic about the experience of catching a show in the heart of downtown right after a rainstorm.
