Recently TheFUSE was invited to Vernon Parts Sports Bar & Grill, in Vernon, Texas, to check out the live debut of a new band, and we got an unexpected surprise—a performance by a great new Vernon punk band called Last Drag.
Last Drag is three-piece band comprised of Alvin Guerrero on guitar and vocals, bassist and backing vocalist Kavian Montoya, and drummer Parker Flynn.
Last Drag performs mostly early-2000s punk music and we were impressed with their musicianship and the attention they pay to backing vocals and harmonies. Listening to Last Drag’s set on a steamy night in June was a lot like listening to the radio circa 2003. They performed a cover of Yellowcard’s “Ocean Avenue” that we found particularly cool.
Last Drag was recently selected to perform at the Texas State Summit on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of Vernon, and we’re told they have a gig at The Deep End in Wichita Falls coming soon. Based on what we saw, we would call Last Drag a breakout artist. This young group is one to watch on the Texoma music scene.
