A.A. Bottom Caught in the Act
Legendary Wichita Falls band performs at the Iron Horse Pub
A.A. Bottom has been around for 36 years, and there’s not much that can be said about them that hasn’t already been said. They haven’t kept drawing crowds for 36 years on luck and good looks. They’re an awesome band.
A.A. Bottom is simply the best bar band in Texoma, particularly for people of Generation X. For those who grew up on the mainstream rock of the 70s and 80s, A.A. Bottom is the radio you grew up listening to. Classics from Thin Lizzy, ZZ Top, Steely Dan and Eddie Money might make their way into the set, or the guys will choose from their huge repertoire. There might be something from the late 60s, even the 90s, and it’s all good, with four guitarists in the band (five if you count the bassist) and 3-and-4-part harmonies throughout the show.
We’d always suspected the obvious origin of the name A.A. Bottom but had never confirmed it directly with the group until now. Guitarist and backing vocalist Jason Brown confirmed for us that yes, the name A.A. Bottom is an inverse play on ZZ Top.
During their most recent gig, the guys performed some original music for the first time in awhile — original songs that OG fans of the band recognize and still sing along to, like one chugging 70s rock-esque track called Texas Women. Brown told us they have plans to release their three-album back-catalogue on streaming platforms, and they’re presently looking for someone with expertise to help them do it.
As of this writing, A.A. Bottom’s next gig is coming to Bud Daniel Park on October 1st, and watch for streaming music coming soon.
A.A. Bottom is:
