A Weekend of Live Music in Wichita Falls
We saw live sets from Escape Goats, Strange Lucy, Coda Armour and Guilty on All Counts
When we first started TheFUSE, we spent a lot of time going to the clubs and checking out individual bands, and one of the things we immediately noticed was how many performers were in multiple groups. Someone described it to us as a “very incestuous” scene and that has turned out to be accurate.
And if you’ve read TheFUSE for any time at all, you know on occasion we’ve spotlighted entire groups that were nearly the same, with the exception of one or two members.
On this particular weekend, we decided to check out a number of different bands, and our first stop was to see Strange Lucy with Coda Armour at The Iron Horse Pub.
Strange Lucy and Coda Armour are each 5-piece rock bands, and they share three members. Each band features Dan Chilenski on drums and backing vocals, John McGowan on bass, and Jason Deemer on rhythm guitar. If you add vocalist Jack Teague and lead guitar shredder Barry Faulkner, you have Coda Armour, a fairly-new hard rock band with a setlist mainly focused on 80s hard rock, with plentiful unexpected deep cuts.
Strange Lucy, on the other hand, is a more metal and post-grunge focused group with lead vocalist Greg Casillas and lead guitarist Ron Weaver in place of Teague and Faulkner. Two bands, seven musicians, all good. Between the two of them, we had a great night of continuous rock.
Strange Lucy had the misfortune of having the gig booked for the same night as the Tyson/Paul heavyweight exhibition fight, so it was not the near-sellout crowd they usually get in Wichita Falls.
The following night, we went to Fat Albert’s to see Wichita Falls’ Escape Goats, and a young band we hadn’t seen before, Guilty on All Counts.
Guilty on All Counts features Sarah Tyree on vocals, Erin Collins on rhythm guitar, bassist Hank Relic, lead guitarist Justin Wilhoite, and drummer Jeremy Grissette.
Guilty on All Counts was a talented young band, only a few gigs into their career. We heard a lot of potential in this young rock and pop group, and we hope to see them gigging more in the near future.
After the set by Guilty on All Counts was done, it was the main event, Wichita Falls’ well-known 90s party rock band Escape Goats.
Escape Goats is an all-star band, featuring members of Clint Vines & the Hard Times, DIRT, Better Strangers, and Jagged Little Band, and they are always awesome. If you want to sing along to 90s songs you know and love, Escape Goats is a great choice.
Of course there were other performers playing around town on this particular night, at wineries and coffee shops and arcades, too. Who did you see? Tell us about it in the comments.
