Every artist has an array of social media channels. Follow them on every platform you use — Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, and others. No artist likes to hear, “Oh, I wish I’d known this was happening.” The best way to stay connected with your favorite performer is to be plugged in to their channels.

REACT

“Like” — or better yet, LOVE — everything they post. Leave a comment, share their content, and tell your friends about them. Don’t wait six months between shout-outs. Support them regularly, as often as you can. Every reaction, share, and comment helps their work reach more people.

ATTEND

Buy tickets to their shows. Eight or twelve dollars won’t break anyone’s budget, and it’s a small price for an amazing, one-of-a-kind experience — a memory no one can take away. When you’re there, be present: stand up, move, cheer loudly, and let the artist know you’re having a great time. Your energy feeds theirs.

BUY

Most artists have a merch table — take a look. Buy a shirt, a sticker, a CD, or whatever they’re offering. More and more, artists rely on ticket and merchandise sales to sustain their craft. Every purchase, no matter how small, makes a difference.

SHARE AND PROMOTE

If you’ve done all of the above, this might be the most important step.
Bought a shirt? Post a photo wearing it.
Took great shots at the show? Share them and tag the artist.
Excited for their next gig? Tell people — online, at work, at church, in line at the grocery store. Invite friends through event pages. Be a volunteer promoter for your favorite performer — they’ll remember and appreciate you for it.

ARTISTS RESPOND

And for the artists — this is a two-way street. Stay active online and in your community. When fans comment on your posts or share your music, take a moment to respond. As the saying goes, “Live your life in the comments.” Personal interaction builds real connection — and that connection keeps fans coming back show after show.

For anyone who has been to the beer garden at Wichita Falls Brewing Company recently, it's no secret that something is happening. A new stairway leading to the second floor has appeared, although no doorway has opened at the top… yet. But we're told something is coming soon, and there will be an announcement to accompany it.

The Iron Horse Pub is taking applications for a sound engineer. Apply in person, or an application can be submitted on the Pub’s website, under “Jobs.”

At the FallstownFUSE we believe in lifting up our local performers and performance venues, because music, comedy, and live art bring joy to the masses. Similarly, we like to let people know about the venues that host live performances. If you’re a Texoma performer or venue, here are a few things you can do to make sure we’re lifting you up and shouting out your events.

1. Maintain a social media presence. Don’t want to? That’s cool, but it’s hard to tag you or share anything about you if you’re not online. If you feel like it’s out of your wheelhouse, try enlisting someone to do it for you.

2. Create Facebook “events” for your live entertainment and other events. Every time we see one, we mark ourselves as “Interested.” Later, when we’re putting together our weekly live entertainment lineup post (Tuesday evenings), we go back and check our event listings. It helps us make sure your event doesn’t get missed.

3. Post your events for the coming weekend by Tuesday at noon, so we have time to include your event in our lineup post.

4. When posting your events, make sure you include all the necessary information—performer name, venue name, day and time. That goes for everything, including comedians, karaoke hosts, and musicians. Our goal is not only to promote a venue, but also the performer. Plus, having the performer tagged in the same post as your venue increases the number of eyeballs that will see it.

5. Email us at fallstownfuse@gmail.com or tag us on Facebook and let us know about your upcoming event.

There are also a few things you shouldn’t do.

1. Don’t shotgun a bunch of events onto the calendar only to cancel them at random. We’re providing a service to people who want to patronize your events and we don’t want to disappoint them. We’ll eventually catch on and stop featuring your events.

2. Don’t list a bunch of generic events without any detail. Just because your event says “Open Mic” or “Karaoke” doesn’t mean we’ll include it. Everybody wants to know who the hosts/performers are.

Give us the information we need to make sure everyone knows about your upcoming events, so we can remind everyone, SOMETHING IS HAPPENING IN WICHITA FALLS!

This is a quick installment of rumbles and rants to call your attention to a plethora of new music coming down the track, and one unfortunate bit of news regarding Ardmore’s Low Level Devils.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Stephen White, Josh Randell and Mark Pickering, collectively known as Low Level Devils, are presently on hiatus as bassist Josh Randell has announced a move from Ardmore, where the band is based, to Oklahoma City.

TheFUSE had just discovered LLD and featured their raw-but-catchy single No Innocence back in Red River Playlist No 4. Now, the group’s future seems in flux.

White and Randell have each put out messages on social media, but Randell tells TheFUSE it’s simply logistics and distance.

“It's just indefinite at this point,” Randell said. “We have logistical problems that we'll need to overcome before we can start playing again.’ When asked if there was any bad blood, he replied “NO. Nothing bad at all! I love Mark and Stephen as much as always. They are good people and great musicians.”

New Music

Mind Funeral, a new Doom project featuring Garry Walden and Peter Skulski of Ladybird has a new single forthcoming. We got an advance listen to an unmixed version of their single, “Clockwork,” a Sabbath-esque stomp, droptuned to C#, just like Sabbath’s first album, and it is sonic sorcery. This group also features Tyler Farmer on lead guitar and Ryan Meek on drums, and it is going to be exciting to hear the finished work from this talented lineup. Mind Funeral has a very bright future ahead, and Clockwork is coming soon.

The capstone for what has been a very busy year for Blank Labels is a new single in the New Year. Bryson Lawrence, Mike Hardison, Angel Perez and Mackey Divine have been playing and releasing streaming music for the entire year, wowing us in the live setting and in our earbuds, too. Blank Labels has another single on the way to cap 2024, although it might be early in the New Year before we get to hear it. When asked if the single would make it in time for our end of the year Red River Playlist, Hardison said, ”Ain’t gonna happen!”

That leads us to Red River Playlist No. 9, which is coming soon. Thanks to a fabulous response to our query on our Facebook page, we have a streaming queue flush with amazing Texoma artists we hadn’t heard before. And… watch for a Red River Playlist specifically for Texoma EDM and Hip-Hop artists coming soon.

When it comes to band lineup changes, sometimes they're immediately public, and other times, they bubble up quietly from the underground and we don't find out until months later.

A fairly public change went down with Wichita Falls punk/emo band Basics recently, with the band members revealing via social media that drummer Maycen Miser has left the group. Garry Walden has also departed to focus on his other projects, and the remaining members, Austin Rupe, and Trevor Teague, have announced Jonathan “Jono” Hardman as their new drummer. We’re told the band name will remain Basics.

Miser is also working on a new musical project, and we were lucky to hear about it at an early stage.

Maycen’s new musical project will include former members of Tate & the Bedwetters and Dogmouth, plus some not-so-familiar names on our scene. Miser says the new lineup will include Ethan Cole on bass, Sam Franklin on guitar, Zach Cunningham on keys, Tate Faulkenberry on drums, vocalist Riley Southby, and Miser himself will be putting down the sticks and picking up the guitar again. Over a Progress Pizza lunch at Wichita Falls Brewing Company, Maycen told us the name of the group will be Open.

A split we were very sorry to hear about went down in a far less public manner this past February. It took months before the news bubbled up to TheFUSE that Ron Weaver is no longer a member of Better Strangers, which started as a three-piece, became a four-piece when Weaver joined, and is now back to a three-piece act. Better Strangers’ frontman and songwriter Greg Casillas tells us the group will continue on in its original power trio configuration. Weaver remains lead guitarist with his other group, Strange Lucy.

In rosier news, there’s new streaming Texoma music out there from bands like Downtown Royalty and Blank Labels, among others. We’ll have more to say about that in our first ever Black Friday Red River Playlist, just days away. Supporting talent has been announced for The Burn Shop Block Party and Steak Cookoff, Saturday, September 28th, 815 Ohio Avenue. In addition to headliner Kolby Cooper, Block Party talent will include rising Oklahoma country star Cam Allen who claims “southside roots with a Nashville sound,” Texoma standout Zack Crow, and Wichita Falls duo Punch & Whiskey.

Seymour, Texas’ Brass Skulls are out on social media with an announcement — new music is on the way. They spent some time with Dynasty Music Group recording new things, and we should be hearing new music from the Skulls soon!

Nationally recognized band Giovannie & the Hired Guns played a date in Wichita Falls in March of 2024, and just a short time later, Giovannie checked himself into what became a months-long stint in rehab. Now, they’re back. Giovannie & the Hired Guns have announced a Rocklahoma date, Sunday, Sept. 1st.

Finally, area drummer Jeremy Grissett has started a monthly drummer meetup. The first meeting, at Frank & Joe’s coffee, turned out to be a no-show… Grissett shared on his social media that he was the only one who turned up. Not to be deterred, he scheduled another, and ended up having a nice time with fellow thunder gods Aaron Jensen of HermAnthony and solo artist/multi-instrumentalist Damon Harris. It sounds like a pretty cool thing, and Grissett has another one in the works. Let’s hope it continues to grow.

We were surprised by an item that popped up in our social media feed yesterday — the announcement that Downtown Wichita Falls’ “first rooftop bar” is opening this fall. The Loft at Picker’s has a publicly listed address of 1000 Indiana Avenue, which would put it on top of the Picker’s Universe building. The photos show an outdoor space that looks to have room for some live music, too…

Wichita Falls rock band Blank Labels keeps it coming with new music releases. On the heels of Vague, July 24 is the scheduled release date for their followup single You4ia (Euphoria, get it?). We’ve had an advance listen and it is another great track. Follow Blank Labels on your favorite streaming platform so you don’t miss it.

We’ve heard from Bill Andersen at 6th Street Winery that he has some very interesting plans in the future. 6th Street has long been a supporter of our local musicians — a great place for a glass of wine and a show by local and touring artists, and if everything goes as planned, Bill is gonna have a lot more flexibility to host a variety of shows and events. Wichita Falls standout Clint Vines has been playing a lot of solo gigs since last fall, when his backing band, The Hard Times, started going through some changes. It has taken longer than some of us expected (Clint included) for things to get sorted out. As he told me via DM this morning, “It can be a slow process when we're all working folks.”

Now, we’re happy to report, there’s news. The Hard Times is about to reignite, with a new lineup. On Friday, June 21st, we’ll all get our first glimpse at the new Hard Times, and with Clint’s permission, we’re proud to reveal the new lineup.

Joining Clint Vines will be Wichita Falls multi-instrumentalist John Cameron on drums, masterful bassist Jacob Seigler, and new lead guitarist Kelly Jackson will be joining Anthony Montes for six-string duties.

Vines tells TheFUSE “New music is starting to come down the pipe to the band. Still working hard on that. I've been working on writing and my guitar playing. Really trying to dial in the sound I want as an individual player and the band. Have 3 shows booked currently for the year and trying to get some more songs under our belt as a full band.”

TheFUSE got a peek at an as-yet unannounced concert series from Wyatt Ferguson’s On Tour Live, to take place at his forthcoming venue in the 1200-block of Scott Avenue in Wichita Falls. The lineup includes at least one non-country artist who once scored a number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Stay tuned.

Clint Vines has announced the live return of The Hard Times, his hard-charging backing band that's been going through some flux in recent months. They'll be getting back in the swing of things with a show opening for Gannon Fremin and CCREV June 21st at The Iron Horse Pub.

The Fleeting Romance is back with a new single — Liar, Liar — written by Brandt Holmes and produced by Billy Pennington. It’s a rock banger with crisp and polished performances, and you should take a listen.

Also on the new music front, Oklahoma’s Cade Roth & the Black Sheep posted on their Facebook page that they're working on new music, soon to come. And Wichita Falls’ own Blank Labels has announced the title of their forthcoming album — Casualty of Being Free — and the title of their first single — “Vague” — to be released June 5th.

Hi! I’m Troy, the editor and publisher of the FallstownFUSE. Can you believe theFUSE has been around for a year already? It’s been a whirlwind for sure, but so rewarding!

TheFUSE’ origin story starts with an older guy, me, going through a divorce and starting over as a new resident of Wichita Falls. I only knew 3 people when I arrived.

Then, when the TV in my new apartment didn’t work, and I realized I’d forgotten my speakers in my previous life, I thought I was gonna go stir crazy. I was stuck in a quiet apartment, in a city where I barely knew anybody.

In desperation, I grabbed my cameras. As a photography enthusiast, I had spent about 15 years shooting landscapes and architecture. Photographing downtown Wichita Falls came naturally, and kept me occupied.

I hiked all over downtown and photographed everything that interested me until, one night… I heard music.

I was like, where is that music coming from?

I followed the sound and wound up in Bud Daniel Park, where the 2023 summer concert series was about to kick off. The James Cook Band was doing their soundcheck, and I photographed their show that night.

That was one year ago, today.

The next morning, I reached out to several media outlets and offered my photos to them. The response was the old “we’ll keep your information on file.” It became clear nobody was interested, and the idea for theFUSE started brewing.

As a former radio announcer of almost 30 years, it didn’t take long for me to feel like this is what I’m meant to be doing.

I’m supposed to be here, doing this.

Spreading the word about songs by genius songwriters right here in our area. Clint Vines, Garry Walden, James Cook, Hazel, Zack Crow, Michael Kately, Bailey and Ben Hatton, Cade Roth, Sean Snyder, Greg Casillas and the list goes on.

Together, I think we’re meant to lift up our artists with positivity and encouragement, and plentiful shares and comments. I thank you for joining me in that.

I caught wind of an exciting development from a well-known performer in Wichita Falls this week — a possible new outdoor venue for hosting some acoustic singer/songwriter shows. We badly need more places to play in our city and this could be an exciting addition to the scene. We’ll keep you updated as things develop.

Hellen Bach has a special event in the works for the Iron Horse Pub at the end of April. The details and opening act are still to come, but we can say it’s the Year of the Dragon, and Hellen Bach’s birthday girl, Larissa Brown, is gonna be ready to party. Check back soon for details.

Singer/Songwriter Jay Burnam has a new event, AFTERWALK, happening in the courtyard of Backdoor Theater, after Art Walk. Local artists will join Jay for some free performances, and the first event happens April 4th at 8:45 PM.

The St Patrick’s Day Downtown Street Festival is Saturday in Wichita Falls. They have two stages this year and performers include Uncle Lucius, Cade Roth & the Black Sheep, Max Diaz, Escape Goats, Blank Labels, and Low Expectations. Get all the info here.

Texoma bluegrass fans have three days of music to look forward to with the Parkstomp bluegrass festival at Hitchin’ Post Park in Medicine Park, Oklahoma, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s a tough choice between Parkstomp and Wichita Falls’ St. Patty’s Day festival on Saturday.

We hear Tawni Hargis has a new tribute band, Fake Happy, a tribute to Paramore, and the group includes Gellert Domany, Matt Smith, Brad Hargis, Philip Nicholson, and Jimmy Grissett. Fake Happy has a debut performance coming late-summer 2024. Watch for a show date later this year.

Local singer songwriter Anthony Castillo has new music on the burner. Castillo told me he was going through a breakup and he is mining the experience for new music. When it comes to light, we’ll let you know at TheFUSE. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it.

Singer Jeanette Perry is reportedly planning to return to performing this fall when she's done with school. Jeanette told us she's presently scouting musicians for a band, and her husband Shane, bassist for Hellen Bach, will be a player in a project that includes all the great female-led rock bands, including The Pretty Reckless and Halestorm. We’ll be watching for it.

New Realm has a new drummer

Wichita Falls metal/hardcore band New Realm has announced the arrival of their new drummer following the departure of Mark Chew. Their new skinsman is Louis Tucker, and we can look forward to some new shows from New Realm soon.

Blank Labels recently finished up recording at Fort Worth Sound

After some time spent at Fort Worth Sound recently, Blank Labels, featuring Bryson Lawrence, Mike Hardison, Mackey Divine and Angel Perez, are on the road to releasing some new music. Presumably there’s still some mixing and mastering to be done, but we’re eagerly anticipating new original music from the Blank Labels camp.

I caught up with The Fleeting Romance drummer Billy Pennington recently and Billy told me new music is on the way from the Wichita Falls metal trio, possibly arriving as soon as a few weeks from now. It’s been awhile since we got a new streaming track from the guys, and the next release is hotly anticipated.

Today marks six months since the launch of the FallstownFUSE, and with the holiday season approaching, I thought this was a good time to reflect.

So far in 2023, I have taken nearly 20,000 photos in Wichita Falls, including shots of more than 100 musical artists and other performers. The talent in our city is, I believe, uncommonly good, and as an older man starting over at life, the music in this city saved me. Seriously. I personally give thanks for the scene.

Now, we find TheFUSE at the six month mark, and friends have begun to join in the effort. I have been fortunate to meet some talented, like-minded collaborators, all of whom have made TheFUSE better than what it was.

We’ve been lucky to work with longtime Wichita Falls music photographer Ernest Cooper, who took a photo of Escape Goats’ Melissa Oden-Williams that is, in my opinion, one of the best photos I've seen this year.

Likewise, Rob Ratliff stepped up and offered his skills as an interviewer, then nailed it with his first piece — a chat with a reinvented New Realm. Rob and I agree, it’s the start of something great at theFUSE.

There are others working behind the scenes, in not-so-visible roles, too, but we all have one thing in common — we’re doing it for the love of the music, and we give thanks for the opportunity to be a voice in the community. Please join us.

As we enter the holidays and approach a new year, I’d like to encourage you to remember your local artists and musicians. Buy from a local artist for the holidays.
